BgD3.1 copyright 1992, is a demo of a game of Contract Bridge
V 3.1 for Macintosh computers. It is not copy protected and may be placed on
a hard disk. The demo of the game is copyright but freely distributable
when accompanied by this documentation. A continous playing version is
available. This demo plays for 15 minutes before resetting.
The bidding of this version has been completely rewritten to encourage play in the major suits. The revisions follow recent literature and bidding practices of the pros as in the daily papers. Read the instructions carefully to take advantage of the changes.
The game runs on all standard Mac's including the Powerbooks with the possible exception of the PowerBook 100 model. Specify the Powerbook 100 when ordering.
The maximum screen size is 640X480. The game is in color where color is available.
The game has been developed primarily on an Amiga 3000 using ReadySoft's excellent AMax emulator. It has been tested on Versions 6.04 and 7.1 of the system software.
This version has several options: three playing speeds are offered,
review of the bidding, see the last trick played, replay the last hand and
automatic trick or manual trick pickup. A save the score capability has been added.
A few bidding routines have been improved to agree with current trends.
Graphics are also improved to provide better discrimination between clubs and spades.
Bid magnitudes are now highlighted when selected and reset when the Bid suit is selected. The desk accessories now function with system 7.1 and window menus close safely with a single mouse click.
Bidding instructions are quite detailed and include slam bidding,
opening bids, 1st Replys to Openers, Rebids by opener and 2nd Reply bids..
The bidding and scoring rules are available from the menus.
As usual any comments or revisions to improve the bidding or play are
welcome and will help guide future revisions.
A Replay capability permits replaying the last hand repeatedly. The
scoring and game continuity resume after replay(s) are completed.
This implementation as well as the continous playing version require
system 6.07 or later software and should have 500k of ram available.
The game has been under development for four years and is available
for the Macintosh, IBM and Amiga computers. This version 2.5 implementation is considered completely reliable and has included the
most requested improvements from registered users. Additional suggestions are always welcome and should be sent to:
